Simon & Garfunkle

Last Friday I travelled to Melbourne and went to Simon and Garfunkle by myself and what a treat it was.

There was no support act, no intermission, just pure entertainment for over 2 hours.

Bloody blogger!!!

I have had a lot of trouble posting to this blog lately and for once I have had something to say so this time I am going to save each time I finish a line.
I'm in Melbourne for a number of reasons that don't really matter much to you and I have decided that there is no better place to be.
Where else but Federation Square can you put deck chairs out for public use and have them stay in good nick?
I had to meet someone there who works for ACMI and she said that they often sit on them for lunch. How cool is that?
Poor old Docklands is looking a bit unloved though so we went there for an ice-cream to see if the stories were true and sure enough they are, there weren't many people there for a Saturday evening and the city was packed.

Good and bad of drought

  1. No water, the garden dies unless of course you are blessed with level 3a because you live in the city and we cannot under any circumstances offend city people, country people can go to hell.
  2. No money because we depend on rain for a living.
  3. Learning to make do with less.
  4. Going without lifes little luxuries that you once took for granted.
  5. Learning new skills because you absolutely have no choice
  6. Putting yourself into the no comfort zone because you have no choice.
  7. Going without because your children need something and it's not their fault it hasn't rained, why should they suffer.
  8. Wishing your children would all understand that there just isn't any money like there once was.
  9. Feeling sad when the child that does have a bit of an idea asks for a second hand item or chooses the inferior product because he feels he has to.
  10. Living on mince, there are a thousand ways to cook it that are clean and good if you put your mind to it.

You make up your mind which are good and which are bad if you bother to read my blog any more.

and a Happy New Year

I hope it will be a happy new year anyway.

I am so over this drought, I just wish it would end and those poor people in Queensland have too much bloody water, it's hardly fair.

Decision making at our house is becoming extremely difficult. We haven't sold any grain yet so money is dangerously low and it's very tough.

Reid and I had a couple of days away without the kids on the weekend. Jack and Zachary stayed home and Sam went to Reid's sister's place in Ballarat. We went to Ocean Grove and stayed with some friends. It was lovely and I would have loved to have stayed on but I needed to get back to the Culgoa Store to get some work done. We were back before the lunch break so I got a bit done.

It's so hot up here today that no-one is out shopping so I am filling in time and defrosting the little fridge. This morning some new stock came in and I priced all that and it is on the shelves ready to sell. There are some lovely pieces there.

Typical summer day

Here we are 12 days from Christmas and the tree is up and the fire is going. What continent do we live in?

Our little primary school closed on Thursday and to celebrate it's history we had a renunion on the 29th and 30th of November and a final concert on Thursday night.
The reunion was a roaring success in that every one had a great time. Financially it may have cost us but really, who cares.

The concert was really good and all families of the past received a photo album through the ages and each family was recognised for the students who have been through the school and all achievements were read out. Our little community has produced lots of very successful people from retailers to doctors. I shed a little tear or two when these were read out. Our newest doctor to be is one of my old prep students, she will be a doctor of psychology. See photos on facebook if you want to see us together.

Family wise it has been a very eventful week but due to the "publicness" of this blog I will not elaborate.

Jack did one VCE subject this year and we will get the result on Monday.
Zachary is home until the end of January and Sam has finished school too.
Reid is Mayor for the 5th consecutive term and hopefully the last time.

Lessons from John Mellencamp

My new retaliation to my kids is going to be

Suck it up, tough it out and be the best you can.

The whole show was really good and I am glad we had the opportunity to go.

Small Town

Well I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Probly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities

All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity

Educated in a small town
Taught the fear of jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another boring romantic thats me

But Ive seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an l.a. doll and brought her to this small town
Now shes small town just like me

No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be

Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look whos in the big town
But my bed is in a small town
Oh, and thats good enough for me

Well I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
And thats probly where they'll bury me
